Reset Your Week: 5 Things I Always Do to Start Fresh
There’s something about a fresh start that just feels good. Whether it's Monday morning or Sunday night, I’ve learned that taking a little time to reset each week makes a huge difference in how everything flows—at home, at work, and everywhere in between. Here are the top five things I do each week to help myself and my family feel clear, organized, and ready for what’s ahead.
1. Make a Chore & Prep List (Groceries, Laundry, Meal Planning)
Every week begins with a quick list of chores and plans: groceries, laundry, meals, and how we’re going to get them all done. Do I have time to shop in person or should I schedule a pickup? Which meals are we prepping this week?
Meal prep is a huge priority for us. Healthy, home-cooked meals help keep our family grounded, and planning ahead keeps us from relying on takeout. I pull ideas from cookbooks and social media, choose meals based on our current cravings, and build a grocery list around that. We include plenty of fresh produce—and we make time to prep it. I also check the fridge for leftovers or aging fruits and veggies that can be juiced or used up before they go to waste. Pre-marinating proteins is another small step that saves time later and makes weeknight cooking so much easier.
2. Clear the Inbox
Starting the week with a clean inbox is underrated. I skim through emails, delete the junk, respond to anything urgent, and flag anything I need to return to later. It helps prevent little things from slipping through—like permission slips, school event reminders, or those small but important to-dos that pile up quickly.
3. Laundry Reset
Let’s be honest—our laundry usually rolls into the week. There’s just not enough time on the weekend to get it all done. Everyone in our house is responsible for their own clothes, so the kids get first dibs on the machines, and I fit in towels, bedding, and everything else throughout the week. It’s a flow that works for us, and having a shared system keeps things moving without getting overwhelming.
4. Clean & Organize the House
A quick reset of our living space is a must. I go through paperwork, return items to their proper spots, and pull things aside for donation. Whether or not you have help with cleaning, it’s important to stay involved in the sorting and decluttering process. Weekly organizing keeps clutter under control and helps your home stay functional and peaceful.
5. Plan the Week (and Reflect if It’s Month-End)
Once the house is in order, I sit down and look ahead. What’s on the calendar this week? Are there any special events, appointments, or prep tasks that need attention?
If it’s the end of the month, I also check in on the financial side of things—making sure bills are paid, accounts are in order, and reviewing any business or personal goals I’ve set. I ask: What’s working? What needs adjusting? Monthly check-ins help me stay aligned so I’m not scrambling at the end of the year wondering where the time went. Progress happens in small, consistent steps—and this little pause each week/month keeps everything moving forward with intention.
Bottom Line:
These resets don’t take a lot of time, but they give me a sense of calm and control going into a new week. If you’ve been feeling scattered, try incorporating even just one or two of these into your routine. A little planning, a little prep, and a little reflection can make a huge difference.
