It’s Fall Y’all!

There’s basically only one season I write about, and it’s fall. Growing up in the East Coast, the months from September to November are a real season. The leaves stop producing chlorophyll (yes, I am a Bio major) so we stop seeing green and nature shows off in the most dramatic way. We have the gorgeous hues of yellows, oranges, reds and deep purples. We cozy up with warm lattes, over sized layers and high boots. I am day-dreaming just thinking about it.
Then, I moved to Texas about 20 years ago and I have missed the fall season every year since I’ve moved. So, like every person in the Southern states, we fake it. Right now, we are in triple digits heat and there is no semblance of the weather cooling down till November; but I put myself in a mind set of changing seasons. That’s what we are actually doing… kids are starting a new school year, we are changing rhythms and adapting to new schedules, and there’s a change in the day-to day. So why not change our surroundings in the slightest way to introduce a change in our homes.
For me, decor is the fastest (and most cost-effective way) of bringing in a change for the season. Some color, and a new scent and are well on our way to faking it!

Earlier this year, the design world started seeing burgundy showing up everywhere. Wall coverings, tiles, color drenched spaces in this gorgeous deep red burgendy color. I must say, I wasn’t too thrilled about it earlier, but it’s perfect for fall. Here are some ways I’m introducing them to my spaces.

1. Candles

I mean no brainer right? I am not a PS girl at all. In fact, I despise the smell of pumpkin spice. It nauseates me. So my to-go fall candles has to be layered in warm spices for the season without feeling heavy.

My friend Amy owns a local store where she hand pours small batched candles. I love everything she creates and I will always recommend her candles to anyone. If you are one of my clients, you know what I am talking about.

However, if you are like me and one candle is never enough, there’s Lafco’s new seasonal scent. It smells amazing and the glass container is beautful!

2. Faux-ness

I love a faux floral moment. It’s easy to create season after season. This season is begging for a rustic vase with burgundy eucalyptus faux leaves. Make it big and loud and display is on a countertop.

3. Small touches

A pillow, throw, a tray— all of these small touches throughout the home will be a delightful change to the season. Around here, new schedules and being back to school is usually a stress-ful time for our family. Creating these moments of surprise and delight for the family are so huge for me. When they enter the bathroom, maybe there’s a new soap dispenser or a different color towel. The sink soap has a new scent, or a new tray for keys. These small changes can sometimes help with these big changes. Our surroundings have an impact on our daily lives, so let’s make them functional but also beautiful!
